INGOLSTADT, June 9 — Audi has unveiled the Nuvolari, its first hybrid supercar and, the company says, the fastest production vehicle in its history.

The Nuvolari pairs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with three axial-flux electric motors for a combined 978 horsepower. The powertrain of the Nuvolari includes two oil-cooled motors on the front axle and a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery enabling fully electric driving in E-Hybrid mode.

This cutting-edge technology allows for a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed above 217 mph.

The car’s construction is equally impressive, featuring a Formula 1-derived prepreg autoclave carbon construction and a brake-by-wire braking system. It will be priced from about $697,000, with production limited to 499 units. The Nuvolari also features a debut signature paint color called Titanium.
